Dale Brown


Dale Brown began his martial arts training as a young child. He first began training in the Burmese martial art Bando and in his adolescence trained in Shotokan karate-do, earning an ikkyu grade (brown belt). In 1987, Dale began training with Sensei Jeff Day at the Matsukaze Budo Kai Martial Arts Academy in Cleveland, TN. The MBK Academy taught a full curriculum of Japanese/Okinawan martial arts consisting of karate-do, judo/jiu-jitsu, kendo/iaido, and kodudo. Dale earned his shodan (black belt) in Shito-ryu and Shorin-ryu karate-do, while also earning rank in a variety of other martial arts.


In 1999, while attending the University of TN at Chattanooga, Dale began training with the UTC Martial Arts Club under the directorship of Dr. Zibin Guo. Dale has continued his training with Dr. Guo and the Chattanooga Tai Ji Community studying wushu, taijiquan, xingyiquan, qigong, and tuishou (push-hands). Dale is an avid writer and has written articles for Kung Fu Tai Chi and Tai Chi Magazine. He has also travelled to China and Taiwan to experience martial arts abroad. Currently, Dale teaches “Beginner Tai Ji” at the Cleveland Family YMCA in Cleveland, TN.


In 2000, Dale earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religious Studies from the University of TN at Chattanooga. Currently, he is a graduate student at Lee University in Cleveland, TN working on his Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in elementary education.
